Re: Expectations for subshell

So what mc seems to do is a 'sync views' with every Ctrl-O switch ?

But in the case a command is running in subshell, this cwd is like 'locked' until the command ends, so it won't accept any cwd sync.

Then, when the command finished and prompt is back, that directory will according to the general rule be synced with the blue panels, with the next Ctrol-O switch. Meaning they are back to 'square one'.

I'm not sure what should be the 'expected behavior', under the assumption that the cwd of both shell instances should always be in sync.


A.  Should mc give that rule up and maintain two independent shells ?

I guess many users would not want this, they want subshell to enhance operations in the panels cwd.


B. Should the subshell be re-synced with the blue panels cwd (and not the other way round!) as soon as a subshell command ends ?

It could be confusing when a command spits out, for example, a list of 'find' results but when you look at it, you're already in another folder.


Any other options ?
