There are some random occasions when I also obtain an empty list, but it
is rather the exception, not the rule. I'm not sure it is a gnome issue,
or if it due to the hack I use to insert the submenu at the right
place...

This was indeed intended for the "expert search", but we can make a poll:

  - who was expecting the search box to handle boolean operators ?
  - what operators would you like to see supported ?
  - do you use the expert search ?
