Well, I thought I'd give a straight answer with as little room for
misunderstandings as possible.

Regarding the why we dumped it: in the first place, it was that it is one
hell of an effort to build a stable cross-platform toolkit and then test it
thoroughly on multiple platforms. One part of this equation was that we
didn't want to be guinea pigs with Mono on Linux, trying to figure out if
we screwed up in our code or if it was Mono's fault (always look at the
time when we worked actively on it, don't compare it to NOW).

After spending some time on #WT, we realized that it would postpone our 1.0
release by years not months. So we decided to shelf it. And as time went
by, that shelfing became permanent.

It already is tough enough to sort out bugs reported from users of
different Windows versions, locales, security setups, etc. Adding more
platforms to this equation is like walking into quicksand on purpose.
Especially when you have limited resources.

And yes, there have been some internal discussions too that added to this
decision, but were not deciding points.

#develop will remain Windows-only, the MonoDevelop fork will work for Mono.
