It's true that various red carpet components need to have matching
version numbers. Which versions of rcd and red-carpet (the gui client)
do you have? Without red-carpet itself working, the easiest way to find
version numbers of installed packages is to use rpm, like so:
rpm -qa | grep rug
rpm -qa | grep rcd
rpm -qa | grep red-carp
These show that on my system, the following packages are installed:
rug-2.0.1-0.ximian.6.0, rcd-2.0.1-0.ximian.6.0, and
red-carpet-2.2.0-0.ximian.6.0. If you are running rcd 2.0 and
red-carpet 2.2, your best bet is probably to restart rcd. As root:
/etc/init.d/rcd restart
I don't know where up2date goes after installing xd2. However, it is
possible to run it from the command line.
