Unable to determine system type - Modified system file

Hi ,
I receive this error message
" RedCarpet is unable to determine the system type or distribution of
the system.You must be running a supported distribution to use Ximian
RedCarpet. If you are running a supported distribution, this is usually
cauded by a modified system file"

I am running RedHat Linux 8.0 with updated kernel 2.4.20-13.8 .
Redcarper version is 1.4.3-1 .
What does this error message mean? What is causing this problem? What
system files it will be looking at or what system files might be
modified that it is dependent on? Is there any FAQ for red-carpet?

Nowhere I found information on this problem. Please help me. Thanks in
advance...
