This happened to me too. It's because the first time you run RC, it starts
up the RCD without superuser authority and it just dies I think. Even if
you use 'sudo RC'. What you should do is either reboot (the system starts
the RCD at startup), or use 'su' first of all, and then start RC.

I had a problem with the proxy configuration earlier. I don't know whether
I fixed it, or whether there was a problem with red-carpet that has been
resolved, but it's working now with the following setting in the configuration
box for the proxy "http://myproxy.foo.bar:portnumber". If you leave the
"http" out, I don't think it works.
