More crashes caught now mean fewer crashes when 8.0 is released, which is good for GNOME. [Red Hat don't see all the stack traces, so they aren't quite as concerned about it as I am.] (2) it appears that the current effort to fix bug 78007 has stopped momentarily, so we want to test vte's i18n and stability to see if the community will do better with vte in the long term. Currently lots of people in the community think we will but we can't know until people are testing it. Most likely, if further attempts to fix 78007 or other zvt bugs are made, we'll switch back to zvt in an attempt to test those. But I can't honestly tell you if such attempts will be made or not, and if they aren't, and vte is sufficiently stable and functional that the community wants to switch to vte permanently, we'll probably stay there.
