Nautilus not reading .directory file for desktop

Well, thanks to bug day on irc I was able to get a good answer from a 
nautilus developer on this one.  At this point they don't know what exactly 
is causing it, but are working on the bug, a quick solution (besided killall 
nautilus) is to press ctrl+R while the desktop is active (click on a black 
space on the desktop)  this will reload all the icon positions, worked great 
for me and they haven't lost possision again since.
