Please try setting (and exporting) "GDK_USE_XFT=1" in your environment
before starting GNOME, and using the XftConfig file posted in
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/showattachment.cgi?attach_id=10122 (attached
to bug 89007).  This clears up most of the problems I've seen with fonts
in the snapshots on my RHL 7.3 box at home.

Font selection's iffy in gnome-terminal for non-Xft setups because
converting from Pango font descriptions to XLFDs isn't always possible --
much of the current implementation is just guesswork which works for some
fraction of cases.
