With Red Hat 7.3 updated with Ximian Gnome-2 and Sawfish for the window manager, if I set my edge panel to autohide and I have edge flipping turned on, the panel is never unhidden with a mouse over. I had four workspaces with edge flipping and I had to remove edge flipping to get the panel back. On another box with Red Hat 7.3 and no Ximian except what came with the distro auto hide works just fine with four viewports and edge flipping. Just bringing the cursor near the edge caused the panel to unhide. So far I am not at all that impressed with Gnome 2 though it did, at first, seem to be a move in the right direction. I also am a bit confused about what is going on with Metacity vs Sawfish. For now I think I would rather put up with Sawfish's bloat than Metacity's crashes and severe lack of features. I will continue play with Gnome-2 on a spare box, but I won't be using it for any mission critical applications until it is MUCH more stable and mature. I am not sure if I would buy the next Red Hat or Mandrade releases if Gnome-2 is the desktop environment.
