The problem is not Gnome-2 per se but with Metacity. Since Sun has abandoned Sawfish in favor of Metacity as *THE* default window manager it seems that everyone is following. As far as I can tell, the reason for the switch is that to reach a corporate and/or international desktop market you need support for people with disabilities and those who don't speak English. According to Sun Sawfish's code was too much of a mess to fix easily and quickly, therefore a switch to Metacity. IMHO, a fine window manager with a bright future, but currently lacking in maturity and features. If you want to use edge flipping, this leaves you two choices; you can switch to using KDE or go back to using Sawfish. Since this is a Ximian mailing list I assume that you will want to stick to Gnome-2. If you use English exclusively and don't have a disability that would require the special features that Sawfish doesn't have you can stick with Sawfish. Unfortunately there is no longer an easy to use caplet to switch desktop window managers with Gnome-2. I understand that they are working on one, but until then you can make the switch yourself. How to switch from Metacity to Sawfish with Gnome-2: Go to the "GConf editor" AKA "Configuration Editor" and under / > desktop > applications > window_manager edit the 'current' and/or 'default' key from /usr/bin/metacity to /usr/bin/metacity You may need to right click on the key and select "Edit key..." to get an editing pop-up window. Then open a terminal window and enter the following command: "killall metacity && sawfish &" without the quotes, of course. Then you should be running Sawfish. When you log out be sure save your current setting. --- Now you can have your Gnome-2 and keep your edge flipping. I use it all the time myself and was very frustrated by Metacity's lack of support for edge flipping. Hopefully once Metacity matures a bit they will include this handy feature.
