   i've had similar problems with the snaps from a few weeks ago (the 
ones with the vector scaling squishiness - and those before also), 
metacity, and xscreensaver.  it seems that if i leave the machine in 
screen saver mode for a while (at least 10 minutes) and come back the 
system starts to thrash when i stop the screen saver.  not sure what's 
really causing the problem since i'm not running the standard rh7.3 
kernel - i've built my own 2.4.19.  i always just blamed the kernel (and 
nvidia drivers).  anyhow, it starts to thrash so badly that it eats up 
all my ram and swap and then just hangs before i can figure out what the 
runaway process is.  the weird part is that the system is fine right up 
until i exit the screen saver.

   any ideas?
