I had the same problem until recently.

Although I can't speak to the message in the log file, what worked for
me was putting the command I wanted run directly in ~/.gnome/Gnome,
rather than having it call gnome-moz-remote.  That is:

[URL Handlers]
default-show=/usr/bin/galeon -n "%s"

I have absolutely no idea why this worked, but it did. :)  YMMV.
