Evolution Through NAT?

I have a fairly vanilla home network that connects to a cable modem
through a Linksys router doing NAT. If I use ssh to connect to my server
from a remote host and try to fire up evolution I get the splash screen
and all but the last of the little icons in the splash screen light up,
at which point it just hangs.

If I do the same thing from *inside* my home network (i.e. use ssh to
connect to the server and then fire up Evo) everything works fine, so
this appears to be an issue related to the Linksys box, NAT, whatever.

Anybody have a clue what could cause this behavior?
