I can confirm the latter, but didn't remember RH8 doesn't ship Gnome 2
OTOH... ;)

So it seems, you will need a more recent distro or XD2. Unfortunately I
won't be of great help regarding installing XD2. But a first hint might
be your "/etc/redhat-release" file. The installer checks this file, to
determine the proper version to install.


Anyway, you don't have to buy anything, even when installing XD2. And
you don't need Mono for Evolution at all.
