glib is indeed the kicker.  If you can survive with a Ximianized glib
(not sure we patched it; it's probably just updated), you may be better
off.  rpm -Uvh --oldpackage is a good way of doing atomic downgrades,
FWIW, if you really need to downgrade glib.

I've managed to uninstall XD2, but it's not an operation for the faint
at heart.  At this point, I prefer to keep /home on its own partition
(easy to say in hindsight) and simply reinstall the OS as needed.
