You shouldn't need 2.8 to build Evo 2.0.  The 2.2 that comes with XD2
should suffice, modulo a couple modules mentioned in the README in the
root of the Evo tarball.

What exactly is the configure script complaining about? It may be easier
to fix that than to install 2.8.
