I feel like an idiot - that was it.  I was thrown off by the fact that it
let me enter appointments, and I could see them via Konqueror, but not in
Evolution.

Hmm, no entries at all appearing in your calendar?

Just a shot in the dark, but I did come across this before... You did
enable the Calendar, right? You need to check the box next to the
Calendars name in the tree...
