No need to feel bad. You're not the only one to overlook the checkbox to
enable / disable visibility of a given Calendar. And of course, asking
question like this happened to all of us... ;)

This statement is simply wrong. Evolution does let you see them. It just
enables you, to selectively "enable" and thus show your Calendars.

It's a *feature*, and a pretty good one -- especially with the new
feature to show remote Calendars. There are Calendars out there with
local holidays, sports calendars, software release schedules, etc.
Someone even came up with a working solution to display a TV guide.

Evolution already has a built-in Birthday Calendar, and there will be a
Weather Calender plugin in Evo 2.2 showing the local weather forecast.

Now, do you want to enable all of them all the time? Or do you want to
be forced to see only *one* Calendar at once? Likely not.

Now, as you got that a strong opinion about Free Software, you sure do
care to file a bugreport, don't you?

Please file a bugreport at http://bugzilla.ximian.com/ for the Calendar.
When creating a new appointment to Calendar X, this calendar should be
enabled automatically.
