This statement is simply wrong. Evolution does let you see them. It just
enables you, to selectively "enable" and thus show your Calendars.

I don't disagree with the design that lets you enable Calendars. I
think it's a pretty good one too.

My complaint is about the poor "out-of-the-box" (i.e., first-time) user
experience. As installed on my SuSE Pro 9.2 distribution, Evolution
lets you create appointments just fine. But because the Local calendar
is disabled, you can't see them. In my opinion, this is wrong. By
default, the Local calendar should be enabled. Or, don't let users
create appointments in calendars that are not enabled. That way, user
can see the appointment just created.

It's a *feature*, and a pretty good one -- especially with the new
feature to show remote Calendars. There are Calendars out there with
local holidays, sports calendars, software release schedules, etc.
Someone even came up with a working solution to display a TV guide.

These sound great! Do you have any pointers to share?

Evolution already has a built-in Birthday Calendar, and there will be a
Weather Calender plugin in Evo 2.2 showing the local weather forecast.

I am looking forward to the weather calendar. Sounds cool.

be forced to see only *one* Calendar at once? Likely not.

In my opinion, the software is broken.

Now, as you got that a strong opinion about Free Software, you sure do
care to file a bugreport, don't you?

I personally happen to like Evolution very much, and I am grateful for
all of the hard work that you and the other Evolution team members have
put into the product. So yes, strong opinions, but they're sincere.

Please file a bugreport at http://bugzilla.ximian.com/ for the Calendar.
When creating a new appointment to Calendar X, this calendar should be
enabled automatically.
