SV: AOL mail on Evolution - Help!

Excuse me for jumping in....
I'm not at my Evolution machine right now, but isn't it so that You have to choose which account to send with (unless You do a reply) otherwise Evolution send with Your default account? If You AOL account is set up as Your default it might look like it's "hijacking".
Belive me, AOL has nothing to do with Your Evo SMTP settings and those are guaranteed "non-upgradable" (at least by AOL) :-)

	Guenther - I re-read the AOL instructions for "open mail access." The
	relevant part is as follows:
	
	"The outgoing e-mail server is an SMTP server. The SMTP server requires
	authentication, and you will have to select this feature at some point
	in the set-up process. Using an authenticated SMTP server means that in
	order to send an e-mail you must log in the SMTP server with a user name
	and a password. The user name and password are the same as your AOL
	screen name and password. In addition, you need to change the outgoing
	mail (SMTP) port number to 587.
	
	Outgoing mail server address:  smtp.aol.com"
	
	So, I selected authentication, gave user ID and PW, and changed outgoing
	mail server to:  smtp.aol.com:587
	
	Not only did this not work, it hi-jacked all of my outgoing mail, i.e.
	when I tried to send an e-mail from one of my POP mail accounts, the
	sending address by default was my AOL account. I couldn't change it, so
	I tried just giving the PW on request to see if it would send and it
	kicked back the same error message as before.

	Perpetual newbie that I am, I've fallen back on shut-down-and-reboot
	many, many times since the "DOS days." It's amazing (to me, at least)
	how many times it works. I again shut down and rebooted, after putting
	the SMTP settings back to where they were (i.e. no authentication, no
	587) and now I'm back to where I started.

	That's what I thought, too, but AOL hi-jacked them nonetheless. (In the
	Windows environment using AOL sw, AOL, as you may know, has a long
	history of making changes to one's set-up, called upgrading, *without*
	giving you the option of refusing. I used to try to run AOL 3.0 in a
	Win-OS/2 environment in Warp 4. I loved OS/2, but AOL could literally
	bring it to its knees!).

	Beats me. I don't use AOL that much, nor Windows for that matter. I keep
	the account for my mother who can no longer check her own e-mail due to
	blindness. At least I can get her incoming messages ...
