Well, no and yes. ;-)  Let me explain this....

Every composed mail knows its *account*. It does not know details about
the SMTP server. (This is the "no" part.)

You are correct that every mail will be sent using its respective SMTP
server (the "yes" part). However, the SMTP server will be determined
while sending from the account stored in the mail.


This effectively means, you even can change the STMP server, *unless*
the mail is actually being sent. This most likely will be the case due
to Composing mails while being "offline" or sending failures -- in both
cases the mail will stay in the Outbox.

Changing the SMTP server in the account settings then will have effect
on this not-sent mails in your Outbox. Remember, the mail itself does
not know the SMTP server, but the account.

The respective SMTP will be known while the mail is being sent.


Back to my previous statement, quoted above: The Send and Receive dialog
is already displayed, which means the mails are being sent. At *this*
stage the user cannot change the SMTP servers *while* the mails are
being sent.
