Yes. All unsent messages will be stored in the Outbox until they

Yes. Although I don't recall for sure if the Outbox is a queue. Which
basically means, that one failing message will prevent any subsequent
messages from being sent too, regardless of their respective account.

Well, instead of "closing and reopening" a simple "Send / Receive"
should work too. ;)

Yes, that is entirely correct.

The issue with the password prompt is, this likely won't happen often.
Basically only once when allowing Evolution to remember the password.

And while you are in "online" mode, any mail will be sent immediately.
Thus, there won't be any confusion about old mails in the Outbox...


I do see, how this confused you -- and let you recall all the evil AOL
had done in the past on Micros~1 Windows systems... ;-)

If you indeed think the password dialog could be more verbose in case
there are old messages left to be sent, please feel free to file a bug
regarding this issue in http://bugzilla.ximian.com.


Anyway, the SMTP port issue isn't resolved yet, is it?

Now, as you deleted all the nasty mails from your Outbox, you probably
want to give it another try. Re-check any settings for this account
again, especially user names. Add the port number to the SMTP server and
verify it by checking available authentication methods. The available
methods in the drop down should be limited after that. Choose the
correct one. Check the user name for the SMTP authentication. Apply your
changes and try to send a test message to yourself using this AOL
account.

If anything goes wrong, please mention all your steps taken verbosely,
maybe even tell us the configuration. Quote the error message and how
the situation is after.

I still will do my best to get this sorted.

If anything fails you can ask on the specialized Evolution [1] mailing
list, as this one is dedicated to Ximian users in general (which does
not mean, this is the wrong list). There are even most of the Evolution
hackers subscribed to the Evolution list, although I am positive they
won't tell you anything else I already mentioned.
