I can sympathize. ;-)  

N.B.: this list isn't an official form of support.  Technically, I'm in
QA, and I'm mostly supposed to monitor this list for bug reports, but as

One doesn't send mail via IMAP.  Maybe you need to use SMTP? Maybe the
usernames and passwords are different for the two?

I'm not sure of a way to change the color.  The current behavior is to
have unread in bold.  If bold isn't distinguishable from not-bold, the
preferred solution is to switch to a font that makes the two more
distinguishable.
