Several points:

1) CAMEL_VERBOSE_DEBUG is superfluous in this case.  You aren't getting
far enough to get any camel error messages.
2) This upgrade... did you have XD2 installed previously? A previous
Evolution from Ximian? What's the output of "rpm -qa | grep ximian"?
3) The missing images are in the package.  Have you checked that they
exist on the filesystem? "rpm -V evolution" might be insightful.  Or
not.  First thing I'd check.  It's possible that the images are present
but can't be opened, for some reason, but it's easy to check.
4) If that doesn't turn up anything, I'd try running it in gdb with the
--sync option and get a stack trace (thread apply all bt).
