Evolution + Connector + Gentoo

Hi, I have Gentoo installed on a box here at work, I installed Evolution
(thru emerge) and it runs fine. I then downloaded and installed the
connector plug-in from source. I was able to go thru and set up my
exchange account fine. BUT when ever I hit send and receive I get the
following error:

Error while 'Scanning folders in "Exchange server exsrv.domain.com"':
Could not connect to Evolution Exchange backend process: No such file or
directory

I read somewhere about running
/usr/libexec/evolution/1.4/evolution-exchange-storage first then running
evolution. I tried that but got an error saying it was already running..
Could someone give me some ideas of what to check so I can figure out
what I did wrong. Thanks!
