I suspect you need to adjust some values in the ldap.conf file installed
by the LDAP PAM/NSS packages.  The default values are for a 'normal'
OpenLDAP install.   Last time I was in there I saw several comment and
parameters concerning use with NDS (a couple of attribute names need to
be mapped, etc...)  On my SuSe 9.1 box this is /etc/ldap.conf

We use OpenLDAP,  migrating to Lorikeet as soon as we can get that all
assembled (Lorikeet is a patch set to integreate OpenLDAP, Heimdal, and
Samba so Heimdal stores Kerberos principle information in LDAP and uses
the Samba passowrd hashes and account control information.  Technically
it should work with any DSA).  Very cool.
