Another alternative for a light database server that is
     a) written in python,
     b) small enough to fit on a PDA, and
     c) which has support for database drivers in GNUe
would be gadfly. Is this still being actively maintained?

I know that Andrew Mitchell was working on the gadfly database drivers
within GNUe Common some time ago - not sure of the current status.
