Hmmm reminiscencse coming back ... 
The proposed direction of the bug fix will still be contingent on packages
neatly unloading their own binary modules from memory once the package is
unloaded; IMO that's simply part of packages cleaning up after themselves.
I'd consider it a package bug if that isn't cared for, not an Octave bug.

Probably a stupid question, but I just don't know:
Related is how this will work out with classdef and old-style classes.  Are
they completely wiped from Octave's symbol table once the paths to the
function (member function) definition are removed from the search path, or is
it possible that some dangling pointers are left behind?
