In general, Octave tries not to chase undocumented Matlab behavior. I think
that gives us the freedom to reject the *ndims(A) > 2* case if we want.
Could you post a summary on Octave Discourse? I think it would be good to get
other developer's opinion on this question.
I also like Philip's idea to see how other implementations have chosen to
handle this case.
Among the many things I find odd here is why scalars aren't treated uniformly.
If one of the operands, B or A, is a scalar why doesn't that just switch the
operation to element-by-element?
