Follow-up Comment #1, bug #68282 (group octave):
I am pretty sie that despite what some release documentations might say, you
need a Jva version newer than 1.9 (and I presume you have 1.8). I tried your
command on Windows 10 and it works fine. I suspect your Ubuntu also uses a
fairly new Java (perhaps 21).
