Follow-up Comment #1, bug #68359 (group octave):

I can confirm that, with octave 8.4.0 and Linux Mint 22.3. To be able to open
Octave again, edit file $HOME/.config/octave/octave-gui.ini and change the
line

style=gtk2

to

style=default
