I uploaded a new version of the Octaviz package for Debian (0.4.0-2) at

     http://people.debian.org/~rafael/octaviz/

This package fixes a number of bugs and it should be possible to build it
from source now.  Test reports are welcome.  

Since my packaging work is approaching release quality, I already filled an
ITP (Intention To Package) bug report to the WNPP system of Debian (see 
http://bugs.debian.org/279362).
