Thanks for this effort. I just packaged octaviz for Debian. The binary and
source packages can be found in the following apt-getable web site:

    http://people.debian.org/~rafael/octaviz/

The package was built in a Debian testing (aka "sarge") system. The
following build-dependency packages were used:

    cmake 2.0.3-1
    libvtk4-dev 4.4.2-3
    octave2.1-headers 2.1.57-4
    lesstif-dev 0.93.94-11

Version 4.4.2 of the libvtk4 package can be found only in the experimental
Debian distribution. Although the version of Octave in Debian testing is
already 2.1.60, I am sticking to the latest recommended version (2.1.57).

I tested some of the distributed examples and they worked as expected.

I am planning to upload this package to the official Debian repository,
unless there are strong objections. Test reports are welcome.
