Per the FAQ at http://www4.informatik.uni-erlangen.de/~jnweiger/screen-faq.html,
this should be:
| shell -$SHELL # with a ‘-’ (dash) ..
See also ‘info screen’ or ‘man screen’ for the desccription of the
‘shell’ screen command.
Otherwise you could move your alias definition to your ~/.bashrc.
