Sourcing scripts to set variables ist okay, i think, but to perform
actions one should use commands.

Why would one want such thing? -Getting towards an unordered numbering
of windows surely is a sign of chaotic session management.  Why should
everyone be bothered with this?

To choose the appropriate window which is worth your attention, i
recommend the windowlist command.  As long as you don't use the %u
escape, which would be the ultimate 'buddy list' feature i mean.
