First, depending on your setup, you may not need the X server running on the nodes. Hint, if they are not connected to a monitor, you don't need the X server. If you are logged in via rsh or ssh, make sure your DISPLAY variable is set and you are forwarding your X connection properly. I usually type 'xterm' to see. Othewise, its standard X debugging....
