Advice wanted about CS/OpenGL and a system using Optimus

Hi all,

I got a new laptop which has both an nVidia card (Quadro 1000M) and an
Intel Graphics card. A
system called 'Optimus' makes sure the best card is selected for any given
application (this is
a Windows7 system). As such this works relatively well but it is giving CS
a few problems. I have
three possible scenarios:

1. There is a configuration tool from nvidia that allows you to select
which 3D card to use for
   any application. By default it is set to use nvidia. If I add
walktest.exe to the list and tell the configuration
   tool to use intel graphics then walktest does indeed use intel graphics
and runs fine (but with intel
   graphics instead of nvidia). The following renderer is then shown by CS:
      OpenGL renderer: Intel(R) HD Graphics Family (vendor: Intel) version
3.1.0 -
      Build 8.15.10.2559

2. If I switch back to the default for walktest (which should be nvidia)
then when I start walktest it
   actually uses GDI renderer (software):
      OpenGL renderer: GDI Generic (vendor: Microsoft Corporation) version
1.1.0

3. If I then run walktest inside gdb to see what's wrong it finally uses
nVidia!!!
      OpenGL renderer: Quadro 1000M/PCI/SSE2 (vendor: NVIDIA Corporation)
version
      4.1.0


So why is my system switching to software GDI UNLESS the CS application is
run inside
gdb?

Anyone who can give me any insights into this mysterious problem?
