with floating point numbers there's no such thing as "the same point",
so the ProximityKnotter searches for joints closer than half a normal
interval from each other.

an octahedron has 12 intervals, two tetrahedrons together have 9, so
something has to happen to three of them, and all connected things
must make sense too.  life would be easier if there were nothing but
tetrahedrons.
