Re: Scripts to copy categories into the IPTC Caption field

The is a script that will copy categories into the IPTC Keyword field. 
If you MUST use the caption field, I imagine that script can be modified.

You are close to the right format for entering keywords.
Animals & Pets->Birds->Ducks->Hooded Mergansers should be:
Animals & Pets.Birds.Ducks.Hooded Mergansers
Locations->Alexandria, VA->Huntley Meadows should be:
Locations.Alexandria, VA.Huntley Meadows

There are IPTC fields for: City, Province / State, Country and 
Sublocation where you would enter Huntley Meadows.

While it is possible to leave out the first level of the category, I 
would recommend against doing so.
Animals & Pets->Birds->Ducks->Hooded Mergansers is not the same as
Birds->Ducks->Hooded Mergansers and if an image with the shorter 
keyword string is imported into a database and if keywords are used to 
automaticly create categories, the categories will be created but not 
under Animals & Pets.

I believe that one should use the fields in IPTC as close to the IPTC 
standard as possible. Applications looking for keywords are more 
likely to find them if they are in the Keyword field. A caption like

        Hooded Merganser
Huntley Meadows, Alexandria, VA

makes sense to someone viewing a slide show. A caption like:

Animals & Pets.Birds.Ducks.Hooded Mergansers
   Locations.Alexandria, VA.Huntley Meadows

may say the same thing to you or I but not to the average viewer.
