It's much better to use multiple folders, below a common "root" folder.
Most users have a common root folder like images, and then below that they sort
their images in folders based on year/month/day and even hour, depending on the
image volume.

Windows becomes pretty slow when you have folders with thousands of images, and
for IMatch, checking all images in such a large folder becomes slow too (e.g.
read-only state, image on-line state, file size, last modified date and time
etc.). Smaller folders also serve most backup programs and image browsers well.
And virus scanners may be faster too.

Keep your folders at "CD" or "DVD" size so you can easily burn a folder to
CD/DVD and then relocate the entire folder in IMatch later.

This sounds a very bad idea for a lot of reasons. One show stopper for IMatch,
is that offlining works with directories, not files. So it would be all or
nothing with one directory.

However, IMHO, directories can be over used by users with IMatch.
Some people use directories to manage the logical stucture of their images, but
that is what IMatch should be doing. I just use directories to manage the
physical things.
