Not a negative attitude, but a negative opinion. It may be cosmetically better, however, it obliges customers to "visit" and wade through the forums. yahoo is quick a quick and simple list server - searching is a pita, however, customers are generally quite good at answering questions FOR you.

Boutique software's advantage is the close coupling of the users and the developers. Only the religious will lounge around your private forums, but that should ease your development. Of course, the way to most simplify your problems is to let imatch die on the vine. This is a great firs step.

Check how Chris Breeze is doing....

  Hi, Rusty

For me this sounds as a very negative attitude.
The new forum has so many advantages over the old Yahoo forum, including better
presentation, better grouping, separate forums for different threads, a life RSS
feed of all new messages (for your browser), a user-configurable daily digest of
  all new postings.

Thanks for the reply. The boutique developers appear to be wanting to leave
yahoo and the excellent two-communication. There are list servers (phplist
  comes to mind).

The expectation that users will "check the site" is ridiculous. So much for
feedback and customers helping others. Looks like Mario will get his dream of
  minimizing email activity.

So far I've received only a "Daily Digest" as a result of subscribing to
    the new forum.

As second best to a full list server, I might be happy enough with an
immediate email copy of each forum post complete with correct subject
line and reference headers (for threading), but I didn't see that option
    in the forum settings.
