Yes, I have the same experience. On one hand, it sounds like you might be opening Document Properties more often than necessary. So we might be able to help you with not having to open it so much. But on the other hand, there might be preferences to help with that. I think they are in in Edit menu > Inkscape Preferences > Interface > Windows, but I'm not positive. Unfortunately, I haven't found the right ones yet. So I'll be interested to learn the answer too!
