There's obviously some problem. I'll have to find some time to look into it further. Thanks for your observations! One thing I noticed with respect to the background is that MNGeye keeps telling me the BACK chunk has image_id 256 in it, rather than 1, so there's a byte-order problem, but I don't know if that's in the libmng writer, the 1.0.5 libmng reader, the 1.0.7 reader or MNGeye or any combination of them.
