Hi Mike,

Would OmniGraffle's LinkBack support be of use to you?

	- Select a bunch of objects
	- Choose Copy as PDF from the Edit menu.
	- Delete the original objects.
	- Paste; you get a single object, whose image is a PDF representation  
of the objects you copied.
	- Copy the PDF object and paste it anywhere you need to place the  
objects within a larger diagram.
	- If you want to edit the original objects, double-click one of your  
PDF objects; a new OmniGraffle window opens. When you save your  
changes there, the PDF is updated anywhere it occurs in your document.

I hope you can get the results you want!
