I am not using gentoo.  I really don't have that option.  I don't know
if it is in libpng and there are a dozen systems that have this problem.
 If the problem is in libpng then there is no way I will see those
images again because the package managers are not going to make this fix.

I thought that you were going to create an optpng that would allow me to
convert thwe images to a universally accepted format.
