Anything which is not periodially tested is likely broken.  It is 
better to have fewer permutations which are tested and proven to work 
than many permutations which might not work.

The target-specific build scripts are best seen as "samples" even if 
that was not their original intent.  Indeed many targets represented 
there are best described as hobby or museum pieces.

So I definitely agree with getting rid of the cruft.  It is not like 
anything will have gone missing since the files are easily obtained 
elsewhere.  If someone complains, then you know it must have actually 
been used.
