Currently, there is a process with GitHub about problem with Glenn personal original repositories since death, already more 5 years :/ and pnggroup GitHub organization.
I have specified several years ago but there was no change.
So, recently I have contacted GitHub for Cosmin Truta, the leader since 2018.
It is in progress, I have received a first answer from GitHub, I have sent a new message to GitHub (Cosmin Truta was in cc), I hope that they will process...

Looking at what has happened over the last few years and having gone on a recent trawl, or is it troll, through the github issues and PRs I feel it is time to ask everyone here whether it is time for "libpng-ng".

It has happened to the IJG code (though it wasn't given the -ng suffix) it has happened to many other worthy open source projects and, indeed, there is now zlib-ng.

-ng's happen because projects maintained by the original authors run out of steam or time; someone has to take over.  My feeling is that someone needs to do that for libpng.  Not me of course, not, I suspect, anyone with long term experience of the libpng development.  Just someone.

So I'm soliciting feelings.  Not volunteers.  Opinions.  Not facts.
