I do not believe any of the other branches should be altered. IMO they are archival. pngcrush is still the best program I'm aware of for doing what it does, but it also still works just fine. The link that gentoo uses is https://pmt.sourceforge.io and I believe the canonical releases of these tools are on sourceforge.
