Oh, and here's another one ;-) The ability to represent a light field losslessly (cf Lytro.) Efficient encoding of light fields has been investigated, necessarily - the data sets are too big if you just record all the values directly. Oh, and another one: standardized representation of HDR data. Everyone produces it, but it is always the final post-processed form as a JPEG. I don't know if anyone is making the unprocessed data available and, realistically, that is what people who do image processing need. The camera always gets it wrong. Oh, and efficient representation of intermixed continuous tone and solid color data, as in a poster with photographs. I have a real world 10,000x7000 PNG which compresses 20:1 but would do a whole lot better if the photographs in it were actually not uncompressed then recompressed (badly) in PNG. Oh, and random access and tile based compression. Plus world peace, I've seen that requested pretty often. -- John Bowler <[email protected]> +1 (541) 450-9885 PO BOX 3151 KERBY OR 97531-3151 USA ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
